We will be announcing results for the 2011 Halstead Grant competition in less than two weeks! What better way to gear up for big grant news than with recognition of one of last year’s amazing finalists.
Alyssa Lesser of LESS Jewelry is still a student at Parsons The New School for Design in New York but she has already achieved big things. Alyssa recently launched a new website for her burgeoning jewelry business. Parsons is famous for churning out top notch creative talent and Alyssa Lesser does not disappoint.
- Lwin Necklace: Mixed Metal Chains with Antiqued Buffalo Teeth
- Moonage Collar: Pyrite Rocks with Mixed Metal Chains
- Tallulah Necklace: Mixed Metal Chains, Black Garnet and Rabbits Foot
LESS handmade jewelry features raw and unusual elements such as rusted hardware, leather and animal findings. Alyssa combines these funky components to craft industrial chic styling. The line is edgy, trendy and urban. She graduates in 2012 and I am sure we can expect great things from her has she launches her career.
The Halstead Grant is an annual competition for new jewelry designers. Applicants must submit a jewelry portfolio and details from their business plans for consideration. The award includes $5,000 of start-up capital, industry recognition and $1,000 of jewelry supplies. LESS Jewelry was a top 10 finalist in 2010. Results for 2011 will be announced in August. Stay tuned!
