Alan Revere trained a generation of jewelers through the Revere Academy. Since its 2017 closing, the Let's Make Professional Jewelry Facebook Group has been encouraging and connecting jewelers working through the projects in his Professional Jewelry Making book.
Alan Revere had a passion for jewelry growing up. Fueled with the desire to learn all there was about the craft, he traveled abroad to Germany where he attended a centuries old jeweler's school. Upon returning to the states there was an interest among his peers to teach them what he had learned overseas, so in 1979 the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts was born. The school offered classes for everyone from beginners to advanced students in subjects such as repairs, fabrication, wax carving, molds, settings, fabrication and more. Some programs were accredited diplomas authorized through the State of California. Sadly the school closed in 2017.
In 2018, the Let's Make Professional Jewelry Facebook Group was formed. The private group is dedicated to following Alan's book Professional Jewelry Making and designed for jewelers who intend to participate in the projects. You must request to join the group and answer a few questions, but once in you'll be connected with thousands of jewelers all with the same jewelry-making goal. There are 35 projects that range from beginner level to advanced. Members can work on the projects at their own pace, but typically work in the order of the projects. Alan Revere, Melissa Muir, Michael David Sturlin and Richard Jones run the group. As of January 2021, there are over 17,000 members, including Halstead's Erica Stice, that you can connect with for tips and encouragement through the projects.
To supplement your experience with the group, try taking a class with one of our preferred teachers or studio schools.
